This Honey Garlic Chicken is a heartwarming dish that combines sweet and savory flavors, perfect for family gatherings. With minimal prep time and a slow cooker, you can enjoy tender, flavorful chicken with ease.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) honey
  • 1/4 cup (65 ml) hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped (white part for cooking, green part for serving)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Start by rinsing the chicken breasts under cold water and drying them with paper towels.
  2. Place the chicken in the slow cooker: Arrange the chicken breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker, ensuring they are flat for even cooking.
  3. Mix the sauces: In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Pour the sauce: Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the chicken in the slow cooker.
  5. Cook on low: Set the slow cooker to LOW and cook for 2 to 3 hours. Check for doneness; the chicken should be fully cooked and tender.
  6. Shred the chicken: Once cooked, remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
  7. Thicken the sauce: Take 3 tablespoons of the cooking liquid and mix it in a small bowl with the cornstarch. Stir this mixture into the remaining sauce in the slow cooker and let it thicken for about 5 minutes.
  8. Combine chicken and sauce: Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker, mix it with the thickened sauce, and cook for another 20 minutes to meld the flavors.
  9. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with the green parts of the onions and, if desired, sesame seeds for a crunchy finish.

Nutrition

Keywords: Avoid overcooking the chicken to prevent it from becoming dry. You can use apple cider vinegar instead of rice vinegar if needed. Feel free to add vegetables like carrots or bell peppers for a more complete dish.
